2006-10-18 [ceridwen]: "It will get those stupid creationists to shutup about the bad comparison between humans and feces-flinging
XDD I love it.
2006-10-18 [Dil*]: lol, thanks.
2006-10-18 [Cliché]: Just thought you should know I totally love this. Utterly.
2006-10-18 [Dil*]: Thanks ^__^
2006-10-18 [akira]: oh god, I can totally picture the Molotov cocktail scene. I may have to draw it :P
((fyi, it's 'ubermensch', and I'm scared that I know that))
2006-10-18 [Dil*]: gah XD well, my german spelling isn't up to date :P
yay I have readers!
2006-10-18 [kay-chan]: Sweet! :3 Um... I'm not a reader... >.> I just... watch it... for the pictures... Rebellion!
2006-10-18 [Dil*]: well, you can read tiny chunks of it...
at a time..if you're not a big reader.
it's divided pretty good.
2006-10-18 [crowdel]: i like this it's really good
2006-10-18 [Dil*]: would you...sign it out of a library?
2006-10-18 [sophomoric]: Reading the bit I did, I would highly suggest plucking out your explanation of ubermensch as (superman). It's condescending to assume that the reader doesn't already know what it is, and if you have readers who genuinely need the incite, odds are they'll mistake it for the DC Comics figurehead.
2006-10-18 [sophomoric]: "Honesty, what a joke."
Was that supposed to be "honestly"?
A self-proclaime
"He’s having his laughing session. Earplugs thank you. Thirty minutes and it will be all over." suggest "all be over."
"Mercifully, he is a blank the rest of the day. No, I did not alter his recipe. There’s no change if nobody notices." Blank is more typically an adjective, so making it "He is blank the rest" gives a better sound to it.
2006-10-18 [sophomoric]: "Bill is such a smug bastard. He's located in the room across my roommate and me."
Using the word "located" seems to be stretching for something. "In" would have been just as good.
There are a number of instances where you use more words than necessary.
2006-10-18 [ceridwen]: Heh... I disagree with the plucking of the ubermensch explanation. I don't think it's all that condescending, really. It almost seems to suit what little we know about the narrator at this point. Though, I don't like having 'superman' in parenthesis...
2006-10-19 [Dil*]: I have a bad habit of being redundent. Thanks for pointing out some grievious errors soph.
2006-10-19 [ceridwen]: Eh... I don't think so. I actually like the explanation as it is. Or if you prefer not to have it directly in your writing, give it a footnote.
2006-10-19 [Dil*]: Okay, superman....da
2006-10-19 [Dil*]: I'm having some serious problems with glitches on my computer...whe
2006-10-19 [Galain]: I'm liking this so far :-)
2006-10-19 [Dil*]: thanks.
2006-10-19 [crowdel]: honestly i thought the superman thing was good and the writing style is great with the opinionated narrator who thinks of himself so highly
2006-10-19 [Dil*]: yeah, anti-hero is the thing to do these days.
2006-10-19 [crowdel]: because a person who is being persented as smart a would use a vocabulary that may be confusing to many people as his words are a bit elaborate for the occasion which makes sense as it reads like a diary
2006-10-19 [Dil*]: yeah? I don't think I was attempting to make the diction impressive, if so, it would have been..err, different.
Well, the language he uses is superior to 'layman' speak, but he does resort to vulgarity often, and that creates an interesting contrast. (well, I'm trying to create an interesting contrast)
2006-10-19 [crowdel]: ahh
2006-10-19 [crowdel]: i think you shoudl reform the story into more of a journal type thing having each entry a differing dilemma
2006-10-19 [akira]: I wish I was back home, I think I know how to take care of that formatting problem you mentioned but I'd have to take a look at it myself. Bleah.
2006-10-19 [Galain]: Intellectualis
2006-10-19 [Dil*]: lol, cheeky fucker, that I am.
2006-10-19 [Dil*]: 9 watchers..this place is more popular than I thought it would be.
2006-10-19 [sophomoric]: Ubermensch is not an elitist concept. Anyone at all familiar with even a rudimentary concept of Nietzsche's philosophy will know of the ubermensch. You could do something as simple as asking friends if they know about Nietzsche's ubermensch concept.
"I would find it a bit more condescending to assume they know what the hell i'm talking about."
I believe that statement shows a blatant misconception of the word "condescending
I love reading books that use words that I've not yet been acquainted with. I never expect the author to leave footnotes defining those words and I feel elated that I'm reading something just barely outside of the conventional grasp of my own personal lexicon.
My criticism was simply of the "(superman)", not the rest of the paragraph.
______________
I'm curious, have you determined the nature of his/her mental illness, or are you just fiddling around with a general concept of insanity thus far. The verbose quality of the narrative would suggest something of a histrionic quality. Is that what you were going for?
2006-10-19 [Dil*]: Still fiddling about.
I'm not sure where I'm going with this, but apparently once one starts writing, it will come to them. I spent the longest time agonizing about how I should make a story, how I should end it, what the themes should be. I could never figure out what the hell to do (thus nothing happened), but I asked a friend of mine how they made stories, and they said they just wrote and 'things will sort themselves out as you go along'.
Your criticism makes sense, but I was saying that they probably would get the idea that it wasn't the DC character from the rest of the paragraph. I'll probably change it anyways. I mean, I made reference to Max Stirner and...if I'm going to do that with no footnote, it's pointless to leave a footnote for Nietzsche.
I was talking to a friend in university and they said it's the first time they heard someone say 'nietzsche' in real life.
2006-10-19 [Dil*]: Maybe the main character is sane, and it is just everyone else who thinks he's insane :)
2006-10-19 [sophomoric]: Heh... One of my professors mentions Nietzsche in nearly every lecture, and he's not even a philosophy professor. I honestly find it incredibly difficult to believe that most people would not have heard of Nietzsche. Hell, he's even mentioned in "Little Miss Sunshine".
2006-10-19 [ceridwen]: Eh... I'm only a freshman in high school, which is in a small, rural town. Nietzsche isn't mentioned much. xP I have heard of him, though. Haven't read any of his works, but I know of him and his philosophy.
2006-10-19 [Dil*]: yeah, apparently they read nietzsche in churches to attempt to defend themselves against his onslaught of Christianity. :3
2006-10-19 [ceridwen]: Oh... I get the feeling you enjoy that thought all too much.
If I'm correct, wasn't Nietzsche strongly influenced by Hegel? And I know that Hegel and Marx worked so closely together that they even wrote part of each other's works.
2006-10-19 [Dil*]: "And so the blinding light of hypocrisy shines through"
Has anyone else noticed the hypocrisy?
2006-10-19 [ceridwen]: .> Nooo... Should I have?
2006-10-20 [sophomoric]: I've read nothing of mention of Nietzsche being influenced by Hegel.
2006-10-20 [ceridwen]: Ahhh... I didn't think that sounded quite right. I've been reading up on too many different philosophers. My mind got scrambled and they all ran together. >.<
2006-10-20 [Dil*]: yeah, I'm unsure of Nietzsche's influences, but I haven't heard anything about Nietzsche being influenced by Hegel either..
2006-10-20 [Dil*]: anyone else read catcher in the rye?
2006-10-20 [kay-chan]: I did.
2006-10-20 [Dil*]: Oh, then you'll understand the reference a bit better.
2006-10-20 [kay-chan]: Yeah, I TOTALLY got it. :3 I feel special.
2006-10-20 [Dil*]: The main character is much like the protagonist in catcher in the rye. They both bitch alot, and they both are in an asylum.
2006-10-20 [kay-chan]: Oh, nice! That totally clicked it together for me. I GET THE HYPOCRISY. I win.
2006-10-20 [sophomoric]: Love the use of irony.
2006-10-20 [Dil*]: I gave it away sillies.
2006-10-20 [kay-chan]: I still win. *pouts*
2006-10-20 [Dil*]: ugh, all this midterm stress is killing my inspiration. I haven't had any decent ideas. When I first started this it was like crazy wordflow.
2006-10-20 [Dil*]: more added!
2006-10-20 [ceridwen]: "On the other hand, I despise zombie films. They are retarded."
Geh... I don't like the use of the word retarded. Not for P.C. or anything silly like that. It just doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the narrator's style of language. Maybe it's just me...
2006-10-20 [sophomoric]: Remedial!
2006-10-21 [Dil*]: The protagonist is immature.
2006-10-21 [kay-chan]: I think a psychiatrist would have more patience than that. Hell, even I have more patience than that...
2006-10-21 [Dil*]: A psychologist can also tell when a person isn't going to cooperate, he's obviously having an 'off day'.
2006-10-21 [kay-chan]: Yeah, but then he didn't 'infuriate' her, she was just saving it until later... So he's all full of himself for the wrong reason. :P Just pointing it out...
2006-10-21 [Dil*]: yeah, he is full of himself. heh.
she didn't sound mad in your mind did she?
2006-10-21 [ceridwen]: Was she supposed to?
2006-10-21 [Dil*]: no
2006-10-21 [kay-chan]: Not really. :3
2006-10-22 [Dil*]: I'm kinda worried for my audience range.
I mean, this guy is totally nuts and an asshole. He also disses religion so badly. hmmmm...maybe it'll get a rise out of people and it could sell like anne coulter sells her nazi like propoganda. :/ ewwwww....I can't believe I just compared my stuff to her stuff. I'm tainted now....ahh....
2006-10-22 [ceridwen]: Ahhh... I'm sure you won't get too many crazed neo nazi like types reading it... Just a bunch of cocky pseudo intellectuals. xP (I kid.)
2006-10-22 [Dil*]: lol, it would be nice to read this in class as a treat you know.... :/ Like I can imagine after philosophy first year..the teacher would try to give the class a fun book to read. I'm aiming for something like that.
2006-10-22 [ceridwen]: Yeah, I was getting that vibe. It seems like something I would read for amusement, but would probably end up learning something from. (Then again, that's not saying too much, as my knowledge on philoshpers doesn't equate much.)
2006-10-22 [Dil*]: yeah, I'm a pseudo-intelle
I just make up witty random shit.
Oh well, enough penis talk. I'm going to have something for the ladies. Romance!!! XD
yes, I'm planning to write a romantic interest. I'm going to base the girl character on someone I know. if she lets me XD
2006-10-22 [ceridwen]: I'm a pseudo-pseudo-
Oooh. Really? Would this love interest be in the aslyum as well?
2006-10-22 [Dil*]: no, I'm not sure what to do with her. She's going to be living on campus I think at the university. I'm not sure...
it will be a surprise.
2006-10-22 [ceridwen]: Oh goody! Surprises are always... erm, well, surprsing.
2006-10-22 [crowdel]: I have a new dueling arena up its for short stories for anybody interested the wiki is short story duelists
2006-10-22 [Dil*]: hmmm
I have to study for midterms..
2006-10-25 [ceridwen]: XD A formula. Nice. Maybe it's just the slapstick playing into my latent sadism, but that's funny. Then again, any guy being a complete jackass and then being slapped by a chick, is funny. Or maybe it's just me...
2006-10-25 [Dil*]: we share the same humour then.
2006-10-27 [Akayume]: I am loving this so far XD
2006-10-27 [Dil*]: thanks ^_^
2006-10-31 [ceridwen]: Foodfights... XDD I really do love this... It's like candy, only without the guilt.
2006-10-31 [Dil*]: I had alot of fun writing logical proofs for the pointlessness of hurling carrot sticks.
2006-10-31 [ceridwen]: I sensed that. It cracked me up. Mostly the proof for the nihilists. I think that's probably because I leaned quite heavily toawrds nihilism. xP
2006-10-31 [Dil*]: you're not a nihilist. >.>
First of all, you need to destroy all your beliefs, and the belief in god is #1 on the list.
2006-10-31 [ceridwen]: I'm not now. I used to lean towards nihilism though. I didn't say I was a nihilist, but I leaned towards it. And I didn't always believe in a god... But then again my memory is fuzzy. I like to forget how I used to be. >.<
2006-10-31 [sophomoric]: Ew @ calling females a species!
2006-10-31 [Dil*]: lol.
just making things more ridiculous than necessary.
2006-11-02 [Fireblade K'Chona]: hehehe, I ADORE those rules for food fights. Are there more on the way? -begs- A Freudian one, perhaps? (I know, I know, not exactly a philosopher...
2006-11-02 [Dil*]: hmm, you mean the proofs? yes I had fun writing them...
2006-11-02 [Fireblade K'Chona]: yes, I mean the proofs, because they're awesome!
2006-11-02 [Dil*]: ..yeah when I finish this..you better all buy it >.>
(jumping off a little too early..dunno if the publishers will even like it...)
2006-11-02 [ceridwen]: I think someone will pick it up, even if a lot of editing is needed...
2006-11-15 [Dil*]: spelling error(s)! ahhh.
2006-11-16 [w00kie:)]: Very amusing... even though it looses it's authenticity when one gets to the point of describing "101 - how to get a girl in high school as an intellectual". Too much of 'A Beautiful Mind' for those who remember "John Nash's" pitiful attempt to gain the consent of that lover char who's true name no-one ever remembered.
Don't worry about the use of "easy/simple language". Any truly smart being doesn't waste his (resp. her) time with merely arrogant usage of confusing expressions when plain wordage will do just as well. You don't differ by language, only by content (a concept few people understand). Especially once you figure out that most truly divine people happen to be "just street-smart". But since you already mentioned the names any pseudo-intelle
Anyway - keep up the good work. I like the general idea. It kept me entertained for a while, even though I'd probably get bored with the storyline sooner or later. I need diverse input all the time.. don't think one inmate's stories can grant me that. Unless s(he)'d be leaving the premises to get some alternation in there. Need more importance/sub
ps: Putting bibles in the fiction section of a library is funnier than simply labeling them as gibberish nonsense. At least from my perspective. ^^
pps: If the character was really so disgusted by Christians... why didn't s(he) proclaim his/her actions to be a creationists work on an enlightened mission to save the Universe?
2006-11-16 [Dil*]: "pps: If the character was really so disgusted by Christians... why didn't s(he) proclaim his/her actions to be a creationists work on an enlightened mission to save the Universe? "
What the heck are you talking about? o.o
2006-11-17 [Dil*]: changed the beginning.
